Making soft toys!

This term, our topic is toys.
Here we are making our soft toys.

They are based on books that we have read about different animals.

This group are cutting out their prototype elephants and lions. A prototype is a practise toy. This gives us an idea on how to make the final soft toy and what it may look like.

We stuffed our prototypes with ripped up pieces of newspaper.

We used our prototype to trace an outline on to our fabric then cut out the fabric.

This part was tricky, Whaea Kiri used a sewing machine to sew the pieces of fabric together. They soft toy is now inside out. Here are Hanfiro's and Daisy's Kiwis, sewn inside out.
Here are La'Quinda and Katherine's skinks.
La'Quinda's skink on the left is inside out, and Katherine's is turned the right way up.

Attaching the eyes.

Turning them the right way and then time to stuff with fluff!

Shoes investigation

Room 18 are trying to solve a mystery of the appearing shoes. Yesterday, a pair of nike shoes found themselves in our cloakroom.

Instead of going to each class to ask who they belong to, we have made use of our ‘community heroes’ topic and put our learning into action. We made some posters and have put them up around the school.

Later on, Sandi and Hazel informed us that Darryn discovered another pair of nike shoes in (or near?) a bin. Is this simply kids misplacing their shoes? Or as we think, shoes being ‘hiddden’???

So we have two pairs of nike shoes that are waiting to be re-united with their owners. If you have a student who has lost their shoes (or had them stolen) and these sound/look like their shoes, read details on the poster.

Feed the need!

We are very lucky to have hot lunches made for us every Tuesday and Thursday, as part of the Winter Boost Lunch Programme. We would like to thank the people who make these lunches and deliver them. Also Russell Investments and Chep.
The smell of the pumpkin and bacon soup made us think of a Sunday barbecue. It was also as golden as the sun.
The beef stew was nice and squishy, the meat was soft like marshmallows. In the winter, it's nice to get food that is hot, and warms us up!
